- Rogelio Salmona, was born on 29 April, 1929, in Paris, France.
- Due to the rising tensions in Europe, his family relocated to Bogotá in 1934.
- He had formed a strong attachment to his new home city, 'Bogotá'.
- He is known for his signature red-brick constructions in the capital city of Bogotá.
- He is considered as one of the most important figures in Latin American architecture.
- He gathered international attention with his Torres del Parque (Park Towers, 1964-1970), a curved apartment complex of exposed red brick in the center of the city, which is considered as the architect’s masterpiece.
- He continued to amaze with his next work Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco (Virgilio Barco Public Library, 2001) which remains as one of his most famous structures.
- Salmona became the first Latin American architect, to receive the prestigious Alvar Aalto Medal in 2003.
- He died from cancer, in Bogotá, on October 3, 2007.
