The Brazen Bull - the worst punishment ever given in the history of mankind

Image
What do you this is the worst punishment ever given to a person?  Well, this video explains in short about the worst punishment in the history......the brazen bull.  It is also known as the bronze bull, Sicilian bull, or bull of Phalaris.  It was a torture and execution device designed in ancient Greece. Perilaus, (or Perillus) of Athens, invented and proposed it to Phalaris, the tyrant of Akragas, Sicily.  The bull was said to be hollow, and made entirely out of bronze, with a door in one side. According to legends, the brazen bull was designed in the form and size of an actual bull, and had an acoustic apparatus, that converted screams into the sound of a bull. The condemned were locked inside the device, and a fire was set under it, heating the metal until the person inside was roasted to death. This indeed was the worst punishment given to criminals.  What if this method is still in use? What would be the crime rate?  Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Residents of the Greek island, Evia evacuated as wildfires continue to spread for two weeks

Wildfires continue to spread in the Greek island of Evia.  More than 2,000 people have been evacuated, with elderly residents carried on to ferries.  Local officials said more help was needed to fight the fires that have destroyed parts of the island.  The EU said it was mobilising one of its biggest responses to tackle the wildfires affecting Greece and a number of other European nations.  Greece and neighbouring Turkey have been battling devastating blazes for nearly two weeks as the region suffers its worst heatwave in decades. Temperatures have risen to 45C (113F) in Greece.  The subsequent hot, dry weather is likely to fuel wildfires.  On Evia, a large island to the north and east of Athens, two fire fronts have destroyed thousands of hectares of land, along with a number of houses and businesses.  Firefighters have been struggling to keep fires at bay in a number of villages on the island.  A number of countries have responded to Greece's call for help including France, Germa

The world's biggest tire graveyard in Kuwait is on fire again!

Image
The world’s biggest tire graveyard can be found in Kuwait in the Sulaibiya area. Fire is a significant issue at Kuwait's tire graveyard, and numerous fires have been consistently reported over the years. The smoke is being blown away to the direction of the sea, and not inland.  On April 29, 2021, the most recent fire was reported.  This six-acre area holds an estimated seven million tires. This can be well seen from space. Not all of tires are from Kuwait, as neighboring countries are allowed to send their own tire waste to the landfill.  This area holds the record of 53.6°C for the highest temperature in Asia and third highest in the world. Kuwaiti government has a plan to recycle 95% of the tires, and make way for new housing projects.  In 2012, a fire was deliberately set in one of the tire graveyards in Kuwait. Five million tires were burnt in this act of arson.

Turkana Human - Homo ergaster who lived 1.5 million years ago Of all other google doodles, today's doodle is a bit different, depicting a doodle of a skeleton, which looks like a half human and half ape. The doodle is headlined, 'Celebrating the Turkana Human' and nothing else. So, let's see what we can find about this doodle.  Turkana Boy, also called Nariokotome Boy, is the name given to the fossil KNM-WT 15000. KNM-WT 15000? Well, this is the catalog number given to the fossil. In the meanwhile, you must be wondering, 'What is so special about it? It's just a fossil'. It's so special, because it is the nearly complete skeleton of a Homo ergaster youth that we found, who lived during 1.5 to 1.6 million years ago.  1.5 million years? What do you think if we were able time travel to the past and meet them? Comment your thoughts below.  As of now, this specimen is the most complete early human skeleton ever found, and was discovered in 1984, by Kamoya K
