Mexican artist, Pedro Linares López's 115th Birthday

Art, is an act of expressing feelings, thoughts, and observations. This article, is about a Mexican artist, Pedro Linares López, who turned his dreams into reality. He was known for animal sculptures, known as alebrijes. 

Pedro Linares López, was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on 29 June in 1906. His father worked as a papier-mâché sculptor, and he trained Linares to follow in his footsteps. 

At 12 years old, Linares, had become a skilled craftsman of papier-mâché items, like piñatas, and the traditional skeletal figures, called calaveras, which are featured in the annual Day of the Dead celebration. In 1945, as Linares tells the story, he became very sick, and drifted into a fever dream. 

There he encountered fantastical creatures, who shouted nonsensical phrase, “Alebrijes!”. Upon his recovery, he set out to represent these mythical beings in sculpture. With little success initially, over time, his reputation grew, and he attracted the admiration of the iconic Mexican artists, Frida Kahlo, and Diego Rivera. 

It was a 1975 documentary about Linares, by the filmmaker Judith Bronowski, that brought him international fame. Linares, died in 1992. Today, we celebrate the 115th birthday, of Pedro Linares López, who turned his dreams into reality.

An oil production ship, capable of storing 2 million barrels of oil, exploded off the coast of Nigeria. A Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, called the Trinity Spirit , exploded at the Ukpokiti oil field, off Nigeria’s coast.  This was confirmed by the owner of SEPCOL, that a fire engulfed the FPSO Trinity Spirit during the early hours of 2nd of February 2022. Google Doodle celebrates the 181st Birthday of Helena Modrzejewska (also known professionally as Helena Modjeska)

Helena Modrzejewska , (also known professionally as Helena Modjeska). She has portrayed nearly 300 different roles in over 6,000 plays, both in Polish and English.  Helena Modrzejewska, was born as Jadwiga Benda, on 12 October, 1840, in Krakow, Poland, and was soon renamed, Helena Opid. She made her theatrical debut in 1861, in a one-act comedy, “The White Camellia,” performing under the stage name, Modrzejewska.  In 1877, she debuted in America. Renowned for Shakespearean roles, she livened up theater productions across America, sometimes touring for up to 30 weeks while performing 8 to 9 productions each week.  She toured not just as a lead actor but also as a director, producer, costume designer, and publicist!     Modrzejewska’s longest-lasting role was Lady Macbeth, which she played 520 times.  Happy birthday, Helena Modrzejewska!

'Eye of fire' on the Gulf of Mexico after gas leak in underwater pipeline belonging to the Ku-Maloob-Zaap Video sources: twitter.com/MLopezSanMartin twitter.com/MLopezSanMartin Pemex statement www.pemex.com Pemex, Mexico's state-owned oil company, said on Friday, it suffered a rupture in an undersea gas pipeline, in the Gulf of Mexico, sending flames boiling to the surface in the Gulf waters.  The flames resembled molten lava, and were dubbed, “eye of fire”, on several social media platforms.  According to Pemex, there was a gas leak in the 12-inch submarine pipeline, 150 meters from the KU-C satellite platform,  belonging to the Ku-Maloob-Zaap Production Asset.  It took more than five hours to completely put off the fire, and no injuries were reported. Petróleos Mexicanos stated that, it will carry out a root cause analysis of this incident.
