The world's biggest tire graveyard in Kuwait is on fire again!

The world’s biggest tire graveyard can be found in Kuwait in the Sulaibiya area. Fire is a significant issue at Kuwait's tire graveyard, and numerous fires have been consistently reported over the years. The smoke is being blown away to the direction of the sea, and not inland.

On April 29, 2021, the most recent fire was reported.

This six-acre area holds an estimated seven million tires. This can be well seen from space. Not all of tires are from Kuwait, as neighboring countries are allowed to send their own tire waste to the landfill.

This area holds the record of 53.6°C for the highest temperature in Asia and third highest in the world. Kuwaiti government has a plan to recycle 95% of the tires, and make way for new housing projects.

In 2012, a fire was deliberately set in one of the tire graveyards in Kuwait. Five million tires were burnt in this act of arson.
